Sophia Tse  
Sophia Tse, President of APISBMA
Board Member, ABC Unified School District Board
Sophia Tse was elected to the ABC Board in 2007, re-elected in 2011, and in 2015. Sophia Tse is a professor of community college. Sophia has been a resident of Cerritos for 31 years. All three of her children attended ABC schools. Sophia has been involved in her children’s schools as PTSA board member at Carmenita MS and Whitney HS, chairwoman at Whitney HS Chinese PTSA and volunteer nurse practitioner for Cerritos HS soccer teams. She has served in the community through the following organizations: Chairwoman and Board Member of the Southern California Chinese Culture Association; coach, team mom, and first aid provider for City of Cerritos soccer teams; participant in the March of Dimes Program for premature Infants; and community instructor for basic life support and parenting classes. Mrs. Tse is the liaison to the Strategies Planning, Ad Hoc Board Advisory Committee and Vice Chair of APISBMA. She believes that educational instruction should develop all aspects of the student, including the physical, intellectual, social, and psychological aspects, in order to create a well-rounded individual. She strongly feels that success in a student’s education can only occur through strong parental involvement and participation.
Cynthia Chang

Board Member, Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District Board
Cynthia Chang, CPA/MBA, is in her 19th year serving as board member and former board president of LGSUHSD. She also served 4 years on Saratoga Union School District Board prior to joining LGSUHSD. She is a former president of APISBMA and in her 10th year serving as a delegate of CSBA Region 20. She was recognized as Woman of the Year for Assembly District 24 in 2010 for “her outstanding record of public service over the past two decades. Her community involvement includes, serving as BSA Troop 508 Committee Chair for 6 years, Co-Chair of Saratoga's Memorial Day Observance event for 3 years, Co-Organizer of Saratoga Rotary Club Building Bridge event as well as volunteer/leader of various community activities."
Shelly Ryan  
Shelly Ryan, Vice President South of APISBMA
Board Member, San Marino Unified School Board
Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Shelley earned her Degree in English from the University of British Columbia, Masters in Education Psychology, and Masters in Administration and Leadership. Shelley and Kelly, a Civil Litigation and Business attorney in Pasadena and Monrovia have live in San Marino and have three wonderful children whom have graduated from college-Caitlin, Simon Fraser; Kieran, UC Berkeley; and Justin, UC Santa Barbara. Shelley will be serving as President on the San Marino School Board (2013-present), Vice President and Director of Programs for the Los Angeles School Trustee Association (2013-2017), APISBMA Vice President of Southern California (2013-present), and on the Pasadena City College President's Board as President & Director of Programs (2011-present). Shelley directed the Peer Counseling and Conflict Mediation program, led in curriculum and instruction, and was senior advisor for college admissions and counseling in the Alhambra Unified School District (1986-2017). With continued passion and enthusiasm in Education, she is an assistant Principal for Ynez Elementary, K-8 in Monterey Park.
Kristen Lyn  
Kristen Lyn, Treasurer of APISBMA
Board Member, Cupertino Union School District
Kristen Lyn was elected as a Board Trustee of the Cupertino Union School Board in 2014 and is currently a senior manager at Roku, Inc. and has 14 years of experience in finance. Lyn co-founded the Noah Private Foundation in 2011 to advocate for children's needs. To support a foster youth education project, Kristen has participated in the Silicon Valley Kids Triathlon. Kristen earned her B.S. in accounting from National Taiwan University and a M.S. in accounting from Indiana University. She holds a certificate in international financial reporting and is a registered tax preparer.
Anjali Kausar

Board Member, Cupertino Union School District
Anjali Kausar is the first Indian American to serve as the APISBMA President. In 2009 she was the first Indian American to be elected to the Cupertino Union School District in Santa Clara County where she has served as the board president in 2013 & 2017. She has been an active member of APISBMA since 2010, serving as Vice President North from 2012-2014. Anjali has helped pass two parcel taxes and a bond for CUSD that have been instrumental in keeping the District afloat in difficult financial times. She strongly believes in quality education for all children. Anjali has a Master's degree in Policy, Organization & Leadership Studies from Stanford. She also has a Master's degree in Health Administration & has worked in the health care industry as an executive for over 15 years and is currently working as the CEO for the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. In 2015 Anjali was named Women of Influence by Silicon Valley Business Journal.

Bob Gin  
Bob Gin, Director-at-Large of APISBMA
President, Alhambra Unified School District
Bob Gin was re-elected to his third term on the Board of Education of the Alhambra Unified School District where he currently serves as President. Bob helped pass an $85 million high school and a $55 million elementary bond to build new facilities at each school site. Bob retired from his work in 2006 and continues to be active in many civic activities and a dedicated advocate for API student issues. Bob has served for two years as the V.P. – So. Calif. and continued to support APISBMA by making it a more viable organization. He has been an active member representing APISBMA on the CSBA Council of Presidents. Bob is committed to seeing this organization stand at the fore-front of API education issues. Bob has a B.S. in Business from California State University of Los Angeles.
Yang Shao

Fremont Unified School District
Yang Shao is an expert in biopharmaceutical industry. He graduated from Harvard University with a Master’s degree in arts (A. M), and from Harvard University with a Ph. D. degree in chemistry and chemical biology. Yang Shao has a heart for local communities and schools. In 2014, he was elected trustee of Fremont Unified School District and became the first elected official in California that has a Mainland Chinese background. Yang is interested in ensuring that at-risk students are provided equitable learning opportunities and as such enjoys volunteering as a youth counselor. Yang serves on various civic in Fremont and church non-profits the Bay Area such as Fremont Unified Student Store (FUSS4Schools) and Citizens for Better Community. He was awarded “Community Hero” of AD25 in 2017. Yang Shao is a regular blood donor. He has donated over 17 liters of blood so far to Stanford Blood Center and Peninsula Blood Center.
Bobbie Singh-Allen

Board Member, Elk Grove Unified School District
Bobbie Singh-Allen was appointed to EGUSD in August 2012 and re-elected in November 2014. She served as Board President for two years. Since joining the school board, she has been a leader in anti-bullying initiatives, promoting multi-cultural awareness and diversity, Visual and Performing Arts, expanding programs for students, and more. Singh-Allen represents EGUSD including: Delegate Assembly for CSBA, Family and Community Engagement, Wellness Committee, EGUSD and City of Elk Grove 2x2, Linked Learning and more. She co-founded Partners in Education where bargaining units, Superintendent, and Singh-Allen meet regularly to discuss issues. She also serves as a statewide Commissioner for Visit California, Sacramento Regional Coalition for Tolerance, Indian Association of Sacramento and Indus Valley American Chamber of Commerce. Her civic and community engagement earned her “Woman of the Year” for Assembly District 9 on 2015. Singh Allen is a mother of two sons and is married to her best friend Jake.
Andrea Yamasaki

Andrea Yamasaki is the first Asian American elected to the Orange Unified School District School Board. OUSD serves over 27,000 students in 5 cities in Orange County including Orange, Anaheim Hills and Villa Park. Her commitment to students and schools started 17 years ago as a highly-involved parent of 3 children. She is a former PTA President at both El Rancho Charter School and Canyon High School. She currently serves on the Orange Community Council PTA Executive Board, Canyon Education Foundation Board, and advisor to the Anaheim Hills Education Foundation. She’s currently active with Leadership Orange, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She previously served on numerous boards of non-profit community organizations. She is a founding committee member of Community Advancement through Renovation for Education, the organization that supported OUSD bonds. She played an important role in the passage of Measure S facilities bond – a first for her district.
