On May 19, 2025, APISBMA co-hosted a relevant and important workshop with partner organizations Stop AAPI Hate and Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California to help our members and education leaders navigate changes at the Federal level. We thank Stop AAPI Hate speakers Annie Lee, Managing Director of Policy and Emily Fung, Education Equity Policy Manager, and Ash Alvandi, Vice President, Orange County, of AAAJ SoCal for sharing their insights and data with us. The panel was moderated by Sylvia Leong, CSBA Director-at-Large API. Our speakers from Stop AAPI Hate shared a summary of threats unveiled during the first 100 days of the presidency, the protections and legal challenges being implemented, and the importance of AAPI voices in the fight to protect public education. Then AAAJ Socal shared what's going on with deportations, what our rights are, who's most at risk, what your rights are and how to use them. We had 40+ attendees from all over California and a rich discussion. Thank you to everyone who attended!
